In the figure above, let ABCD be the given square plot of side 75 m. Also, let PQRS and P’Q’R’S’ be the 5 m cross path constructed at right angles through the center.

Here, area of PQRS = length x breadth = 75 x 5 = 375 m^2

Similarly, area of P’Q’R’S’ = 75 x 5 = 375 m^2

Area of WXYZ = 5 x 5 = 25 m^2

The area of WXYZ of is common to both PQRS and P’Q’R’S’, hence,

Total area of path = area of PQRS + area of P’Q’R’S’ – area of WXYZ

= 375 + 375 – 25

= 725 m^2
