1. What is the hybridization of the oxygen atom in water?
there is a formula for this-
SA + (1/2)(G-V-Charge)
SA-No. of surrounding atoms
G- No. of valence electrons
V- No. of satisfied valencies of atom in molecule
Charge- (if any)
In case of water, on Oxygen Atom
Hybridization= 2+(1/2)(6-2) = 2+2=4=sp3
